John B. Wu is a Hong Kong-born entrepreneur, visionary thinker, and founder of the Destiny2013 and Heart-to-Heart (H2H) initiatives. These lifelong projects are dedicated to restoring compassion, dignity, and human connection within global capitalism. His life journey spans international trade, business innovation, personal sacrifice, legal battles, and an enduring commitment to humanity.

Mr. Wu began his career in Brussels in 1977, building a one-man export sales agency on a shoestring budget. At a time when Hong Kong manufacturers believed the world would always come to them, he saw a different future. He believed Hong Kong needed global sales representation and international outreach. While many around him laughed at the idea of becoming “a salesman for Hong Kong,” Mr. Wu persisted with determination and resilience. Through years of hardship, including working long shifts in Chinese restaurants to survive, he gradually built markets across Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Eastern Europe, and North Africa.

Over the years, he developed an innovative international network of Small Office Home Offices (SoHo), long before remote global business networks became mainstream. His work connected struggling manufacturers with overseas markets and helped expand Hong Kong exports into emerging economies throughout Eastern Europe and beyond.

However, Mr. Wu’s promising career was deeply shaken by a devastating legal and business ordeal in Hong Kong during the 1980s and 1990s. After uncovering corruption and unethical dealings connected to one of his suppliers, he chose to stand by his principles and pursue justice through the courts. The twelve-year legal battle ultimately ended in defeat at Hong Kong’s Final Court of Appeal in 1998. The experience not only destroyed much of his business career, but also profoundly wounded his faith in justice, institutions, and human relationships.

Rather than surrender to despair, Mr. Wu transformed his pain into purpose. During the SARS epidemic in 2003, when Hong Kong was economically and emotionally struggling, he returned to his native city with a personal mission to help rebuild hope and opportunity. He gave himself a ten-year challenge and named the project “Destiny2013”, a name that also carries a deeper emotional meaning in Mandarin Chinese, where “2013” sounds similar to the phrase “Love You Forever.”

Mr. Wu envisioned Hong Kong’s famous “Shopping Paradise” moving into the digital age at the dawn of the 21st century. Long before modern e-commerce became dominant, he imagined an online marketplace carrying the spirit and DNA of what companies like Amazon would later become globally. Among the many product ideas he personally designed during this period was a distinctive diamond-shaped umbrella, symbolizing both creativity and practical innovation.

Over time, Destiny2013 evolved into something much larger than a business vision. It became a human-centered philosophy rooted in compassion, inclusion, and the belief that economies should serve people, not merely profits. This eventually inspired his Heart-to-Heart (H2H) concept, a movement advocating for a more caring and humane world where human hearts play an active role in shaping society, business, and leadership.

The sudden passing of his sister in her sleep in April became a profound wake-up call for Mr. Wu.

Faced with the fragility of life and the exhaustion of carrying a twenty-year mission largely alone, he began reflecting deeply on legacy, mortality, and humanity’s future. Inspired by the extraordinary generosity of MacKenzie Scott and sharing the same birthday as Mother Teresa, Mr. Wu came to believe more strongly than ever that compassion and generosity must guide the future of civilization.

Today, Mr. Wu no longer seeks personal wealth or recognition. Instead, he hopes to pass the Heart-to-Heart vision and Destiny2013 project into the hands of foundations, organizations, and future generations who may continue the mission. Though often marked by loneliness, sacrifice, and setbacks, his life remains a testament to perseverance, imagination, and the enduring belief that humanity can still build a world led not only by intelligence and commerce, but by the human heart.

Just yesterday, 5th October, 2026, my brother passed away as well.
